Whenever he changes the position of his head it feels as though the room is spinning.

He seems to be suffering from condition known as Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Diagnosis can be confirmed by a test known as Dix Hallipike maneuver. If confirmed treatment is by doing Epleys maneuver.
