Hello First of all you must realise that anxiety and depression are just like any other illness which have a strong underlying cause. In this case, other than the social reasons (like exam pressure etc), there is a strong Neurobiological cause. If this cause isn’t corrected with medication, some individuals worsen, while some improve spontaneously and many have a relapse in the near future. I understand your apprehension as a mother to give medication to your child. As a mother you must have immunised your child even though you were told that it will cause some fever. The side effects are always there for even a medicine like paracetamol that we take. The idea is, the benefits should outweigh the negatives and if there is any side effect you can contact your doctor immediately.
