This might have happened because you tried too fast to decrease nicotex gums than you should. In addition other anti-craving agents can be added to the nicotine replacement to help you quit it.

What are you dealing with apart from nicotine addiction? Stress at work or in personal arena, anxiety or even depression can act as triggering and perpetuating factors.
Looking at factors as such and dealing with it can help deal with the addiction, which may otherwise prove to be a difficult task. Life style modification - introducing exercise, yoga, meditation helps.
Next Steps
Consult a psychiatrist to assess for underlying factors and consider pharmacotherapy (medicines) along with counseling.
Health Tips
Take help of closed ones to help you quit nicotex. Ask them to ration your daily intake.
