For an young man like yourselves,  ACL injury can pose a major problem. If you are leading a sedentary lifestyle and not involved in any active sports, you can consider not having it repaired. However, the main problem would be the feeling of instability in the joint. In the longer run, that may increase the risk or arthritis. Being overweight is not a problem for having ACL reconstruction done.
Next Steps
It is best to see a Sports Orthopedics Surgeon to assess the risks and benefits and also assess the condition of rest of the knee ligaments.
