Back pain liniment applied to eyes
Hi Doctor, I was using Fenlong MR liniment for back pain treatment. Accidentally I have applied it into eyes. The composition of Fenlong MR. is Diclofenac Diethylamine, Capsaicin, Mephenesin, Camphor and Menthol liniment. Immediately I washed the eye with water and applied lubrication eye drops I have. The lubrication eye drop I used is Extralube with composition of Sodium carboy methyl cellulose IP, Stabilized oxychloro complex. Whether it will have any impact on the eye vision or retina. Also, after 10 hours of sleep also I am feeling the eye dry. Please provide some guidance/treatment suggestion on this problem. ... read less

The components of liniment are toxic to the corneal epithelium and the oily base facilitates penetration to deeper corneal tissues. You have done the right thing by washing it off, which was the appropriate first aid action, also the most effective in management. Lubricating eye drops will be required over the next few days to weeks may be. You may see a local doctor if smarting continues as there can be an erosion of the superficial tissues that may need to be taken care of.
