Ballooning of penis
My son has a problem while passing urine. His penis balloons while passing urine and comes to normal size later. He does not feel pain while passing urine. He is uncircumcised and we don't intend to carry out any operation. Hence we would like to understand whether this condition is normal and whether it will subside soon. In addition, we would like to know whether there is any alternate method to reduce ballooning of the penis. Further, please advise whether ballooning of the penis damages kidney. Thank you.

Hello,, your song is having condition called phimosis (unable to retract foreskin on glans penis) . No need to worry it's not a uncommon condition in male child. If it's mild then Treatments may include: gentle daily manual retraction several times daily or topical corticosteroid ointment application. If it's serious like baby is not able to pass urine at all,, then it may affect kidney because of back pressure of urine on kidney or due to infection from stagnant urine. Then surgery (circumcision) is the only choice - this surgery is a simple, most of times safe procedure which involves removing of foreskin, which permanently cure phymosis, now a days people are undergoing this procedure in western countries by choice as a eugenic procedure and it avoids few disease of penis later in life. Consult a general surgeon and determine whether your kid need the procedure.
