Dear mam Thank you for your query. How long does she needs to be on treatment depends on a lot of factors like the duration of depression, severity of symptoms, ongoing stressor, what support she has and her response to medication. Please have a detailed discussion with her psychiatrist regarding how long will she need to on medication. Please continue the medication as prescribed and do not alter or stop it without consultation as it can cause A worsening of symptoms if suddenly stopped. Apart from medication, she will also benefit from psychological therapy for depression and certain healthy lifestyle measures like regular exercise and meditation. Continue the treatment as prescribed. Thanks Regards Dr Ankita Mishra

Hello Friend, Good that you are seeking a help here. Depression is best treated with the combination of medicine and psychotherapy. Just be aware that medicine play a role mostly to control or suppress the emotions, where as  anxious thoughts or worry about past or future is still uncontrolled which is the actual root cause for depression. Sometimes it can cause side effects due to body condition and also due to long usage. So suggest that she start few non medicine treatment plan in parallel like mindset change techniques or psychotherapies, few daily routines change, dietary changes, special excersise along with counseling help to see better results from the treatment. Feel free to reach out to me online through Practo or call directly for further assistance and help. Be positive. She will be alright soon.
