Risperidone and other antipsychotics are also used as antimanic drugs in acute phase of mania or hypomania. It depends on the severity of mania or hypomania, whether to used lithium alone or along with a combination of antipsychotic. In any case antipsychotic is to be prescribed for a short while only.
