What was the cause for anemia. Was it properly investigated and the cause found to be iron deficiency? If so the iron therapy needs to be continued for at least 6 months .Get a repeat hb done to see the current status.

Anemia may be due to various reasons. So a complete workup is required. Atleast CBC and serum ferritin required as initial investigation. Common reasons are nutritional and blood loss. Tonoferon syrup is for iron deficiency anemia. It is not useful for other types of anemia. Toniferon syrup should be given for 3 to 6 months. Cause of anemia should be identified and treated. Dose of iron syrups is generally 6 mg/kg elemental iron per day. For a 12 kg child it is 72 mg divided in 2 doses.
Next Steps
other nutritional problems should also be treated. to prevent worm induced anemia, give albendazole tablet or syrup every 6 months.
Health Tips
if no improvement, consult, hematologist
