Home remedy wont work, better  visit dentist  and get restoration  done before it goes deep into your pulp.

If the cavity is not very deep then root canal is not needed. But that doesn't mean that the cavity will disappear just by brushing. You still need to visit a dentist and get a regular restoration done where the dentist will remove the infected part and fill it with cement.

If the cavity is too deep then it definitely required a root canal treatment. It can not be cure by homeremody. Just properly clean that area and do twice brushing and flossing . And as Sood as possible get it done
