It really depends on the disease which the doctor suspects..for some disease plain is better for some contrast.
But.
First it's necessary or not that Doctor will decide..
Please take full consultation..
It depends totally on the pathology your doctor is suspecting for ....
For vessels and lymph node view ...CECT is definitely better
For lung parenchyma view ct thorax ..in better terms high resolution ct thorax is better
That is a question a doctor has to answer after he has physically examined you.
Ideally a CT scan should not be done without a doctors consent especially a CECT.
I strongly discourage such investigations.
