Common causes of not enough milk include - not breastfeeding frequently, too short or hurried breastfeeds, poor position, breast engorgement or mastitis. If baby is not gaining weight adequately, feed the baby more frequently especially during night. Make sure that attachment is proper. Any painful condition in mother such as sore nipple and mastitis should be examined. Mother should increase her fluid intake and often massaging breast may help. Back massages are especially useful for stimulating lactation. Feeds other than breast milk not recommended
