Don't use any ointment or anything at her age it is common problem and will decrease eventually when she will start holding and exploring other object Just make sure she is fed well and not sucking thumb because she is hungry.

4 month old are very small and delicate pls try other methods like distracting when she sucks her thumb . Gloves in both hands , ... Ointment can cause loose stools and stomach troubles .. wait for her to grow up . Make sure she gets sufficient feeds . Weight gain is normal
