Hi
Depression (according to ICD 10 OR DSM 5) is an episodic illness in which recovery is a natural course. With intervention like therapy may be pharmacological or non pharmacological one will recover fastly. Again it all depends on the degree of severity, if it is mild it can be treated without medicines but if it is moderate to severe depression one should take medicines. There are many antidepressants without metallic taste. Your metallic taste in tongue might be due to vitamin or iron deficiency.
I believe you should discuss your concerns in detail with a mental health professional to gain an insight about nature of problem and ways to overcome it through psychotheraputic techniques
