Deviated septum
My case is of deviated septum and turbinate hypertrophy...Today morning, I received the report for CT scan. It mentions that septum is deviated to right..While the PNS X-ray (which was done 4 months before) states that the septum is deviated to the left.I just wanted to know that is this possible that septum deviation changes from left to right? Within 4 months, has the septum deviation changed from one side to other?

Septal deviation can be rarely confirmed on x-rays. A CT gives a better view of the deviation and is more reliable. But in any case a good nasal endoscopy can give the best interpretation. And the treatment will depend on how much of a block you r facing at a given time. If there is no obstruction you need not undergo surgery

Could be an S-shaped deviation, but most probably misinterpretation my radiologist reading X-Ray as it is very confusing to report Septal deviation on X-Ray due to superimposition of tissues, which is why good ENT Specialists never order for X-Rays, only CT scans of Nose....In case of affordability being an issue, we go to the extent of requesting diagnostic centers to do it at a big discount and avoid printing on films only send images to us by email. It is then billed as a screening CT -PNS at a 40-50% discount over the rack rate! This way, radiologist saves money not having to use hoti 3 large films, patient is happy to get huge discount and me as a Surgeon am happy to get accurate information to treat my patient properly!

CT scan is more accurate and precise than x ray and there must have been wrong reporting of x ray. So if you have symptoms of significant nasal obstruction then you may need to undergo surgery known as septoplasty
Next Steps
Consult nearby ENT specialist for confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate treatment if required
