PCOS is diagnosed by a combination of clinical signs, symptoms, Ultrasound findings and lab tests. If you have combination of irregular periods, excessive hair growth and weight gain then you are a likely candidate however you need the ultrasound and lab before being labelled. In addition to above symptoms PCOS increases your chances of having fertility issues, diabetes, heart disease and endometrial cancer. However a healthy lifestyle and if needed medication and regular medical check up significantly reduces the risks. 5 portions of fruit and vegetable every day, 3 litres of water, 12 suryanamaskars and 3 sessions of brisk walking (20 min each) everyday should help you.
Next Steps
You need pelvic ultrasound and Blood tests: FSH, Prolactin, TSH, Serum DHEA and DHEA-S. Tests can be done now if you have not started the tablets already or on Day 2-5 of the next cycle.
Health Tips
You need to rule out pregnancy every time you miss the periods and don't falsely believe that its PCOS. You can find more information on PCOS on the link: https://www.rcog.org.uk/en/patients/patient-leaflets/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos-what-it-means-for-your-long-term-health/
