Distal radius fracture
Had distal radius fracture in left hand in March and was casted for 6 weeks.. Due to lockdown happened to remove the casting at home 4 weeks back and not able to visit for X-ray.. Have slight swelling in the hands and not able to complete close the fingers since I had the casting till mid the fingers. Kindly advise to reduce the swelling and for normal finger movements

Its normal to have post cast swelling. If precaution were not taken.  And stiffness bound to happen as any joint immobilize for 6-8 week result stiffness and pain on movement . Solution to it ;- 1.Stictly keep it elevated over 2  pillow below elbow and one folded towel over stomach   and keep your hand over it .wrist should be above heart level. 2. Crape bandge. U can apply or visit Orthopaedic near by to help u. As its elastic bandage , so do not pull tightly and apply it , it should not be to tight or to loose. Proper firm fitting . 3. Put your  hand and wrist immeresed in hot water instead of applying ice to it. Bearable hot water . And start doing finger and wrist movement  in it 4. Important to check sensation of your hand and circulation in between. 5. And some medicine to be prescribed. But for that u need to consult us on practo or your local Orthopaedic docotor . 6. It takes 6-8 weeks to settle .depending on your compliance
