Does Clonazepam cause dependence ?
I have Depression and Anxiety. I have been taking (Nexito)Escitalopram 10mg and (Lonazep)Clonazepam .5mg for 9months. I heard that clonazepam medication is usually used for short term use. Long term use can cause dependence for Clonazepam. Is it true? What are the side effects of Clonazepam being used for long term? Are these side effects reversible ? Thank you

Hello Mr. I understood your concern. Clonazepam / Anxiolytic is long acting  benzodiazpines. Any Benzodiazpine intake for longer duration is not preferred. Reason :  It may cause some long term side                 effects --                     1. Fatigue/Tiredness.                     2. Confusion/ Forgetfulness.                     3. DEPENDANCE upon it.                     4. May cause depression. *** DEPENDANCE means Physical &       psychological dependance of body upon       drug. It means you abruptly stop medicines       or change high dose to low drug it can cause       WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS ( Feeling       anxious , dizziness, loud heartbeats,       restlessness etc) *** Now Withdrawal symptoms are another       important things, to be taken care of       delicately.
Next Steps
----  Consult your psychiatrist regarding your        diagnosis and need & role medicines now.
Health Tips
**  Don't abruptly stop medicines. **  Do talk to your psychiatrist about your       concern and schedule the tapering of drugs       slowly & accordingly. **  Have faith in your doctor and give him time       to reschedule the new mode of treatment       that suits you. **  Still, any doubts are present you can call me       through practo app. All questions are       welcomed.     ***    HAVE A SAFE & PEACEFUL DAY    ***
