My boyfriend smoked a pack a day for about a month and a half. He's quit since, but I was wondering if this could have any effect on him in the future. Thank you.

None if he doesn't smoke at all. He may develop the adverse effects of it on the long term if he restarts it. It usually takes months to years to develop complications related to smoking. In any case complete abstinence even to passive smoking is the key to good health.
