Epilepsy- Doubts
Hi Doctor, Regarding Epilepsy, a situation of my Father. He was an ex-serviceman, served 37yrs. Now he is 63, was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 54. Till date there were 4 occurrences in all. He is currently under medical check up from Amrita Medical Science. He is physically active, but has anxiety and depression. He is taking Levipil tablet to avoid seizures. Most of the time he is drowsy, which makes him sad. So i just wanted to know if there is any anti-depressant he can take, because he is physically active there is no reason for him to feel broken. Due to will power he is able to handle home affairs except this state of mind. We are worried for why he is having anxiety. He takes alcohol due to depression which adds to the tension as Levipil and alcohol do not go hand in hand. Any medical advise to reduce his anxiety would be a great help. Regards, Atul Sreekumar

Sometimes levipil can worsen depression. Talk to your neurologist at amrita whether he can be on a different antiepileptic. He needs to see a psychiatrist and of course he can be on antidepressants, if the psychiatrist decides it's needed. Seek the care of a good psychiatrist near you. I wish you the best and hope your problems are resolved soon. Sincerely, Siddharth
