It's an anxiety drug , which also can induce sleep, hence commonly given for insomnia.
Yes it has tendency to cause dependence when taken for long duration
But the dose given is small, also , one month may not cause much dependence

you can ask you doctor for any alternatives drugs , or learn and implement sleep hygiene
also if your have adequate sleep you can take half tablet, and still if you maintaining well , stop it
