Family history
I have a query about my family medical history. My father died of an aortic aneurysm and my grandmother had temporal artiritis, which it has been theorised led to her dementia. My mother is on medication for hypertension. I have always had to take measures to avoid headaches and sinusitis and I have always wondered whether there is a genetic issue here and what steps can be done so I can avoid problems in the future. It probably comes down to staying calm and being healthy!

There might be a genetic component for hypertension, and even though genetic factors are not modifiable, your lifestyle choices are definitely modifiable. As you said it basically comes down to making health your number 1 priority by eating right, and exercising. As far as headaches it depends on what types of headache you are having. I don't think temporal arteritis is primarily inherited although there is an autoimmune component to it
Next Steps
since you are already thinking ahead and trying to stay healthy by being aware of your family history, I would say that you are on the right track. Try avoiding processed food as much as you can as it has insane amounts of added salt, not good for headaches either.
Health Tips
I would also suggest you keep a food diary and keep track of your headaches and see if any particular food is aggravating or triggering headaches and eliminate them systematically.
