Femur fracture for my mother aged 80
Dec 12 my mother had a femur fracture right leg.As she was scared of surgery at the age of 80.puttur Kattu was tried and not successful.now it has to be operated.whether to use a rod or not

It's better to do surgery because by being bedridden the number of complications will be higher. There is high risk from surgery due to her age, but the risk of getting complications from being in bed for 6 to 12 weeks is much higher. I prefer to place a rod (PFN nailing). I did one on an 82 year old patient this Monday. And he's doing very well after surgery.
