Head spins when she lies down
As soon as my mother lies down her head starts spinnin and it causes a lot of discomfort.
Same continues evn when she gets up after a brief period of rest

Acute benign positional vertigo is most likely. Whenever there is head movement due to change in position, there is vertigo. Visit some good ENT doctor and follow his/her advice.
