Hello, wisdom tooth should be extracted only if it is creating problems and is impacted or has an altered path of eruption. If it is only covered with soft tissue over it, with the other parameters being normal, operculectomy is a good choice.
Extraction should always be the last option.

Operculectomy or tooth removal totally depends on the position of the tooth. The former can only be done if there is no bone obstructing the tooth, only the flap can be excised so that the tooth can come out easily. If there is bone obstructing, operculectomy will not solve the problem. It will be decided by the dentist after analysing the x- ray.

It depends on the way your tooth is positioned..if there is sufficient space in the jaw for tooth to erupt and it is angulated favorably then operculectomy could be considered else removal would be better.
