High TSH Value
Hi Doctor, My wife is 12 weeks into her pregnancy and TSH value showed up 8.5 and doctor suggested her to take thyronorm 75 mg . She did not had a thyroid problem before this. Can pregnancy sometime cause hypothyroidism. since she has already 12 weeks, is there any chances that it already affected baby?

Hello, Hypothyroidism of the mother during pregnancy may result in developmental delay in the child. treatment of hypothyroidism in pregnant women is similar to that in nonpregnant women.. A synthetic form of T4 is given to replace the missing hormone. The medication dose is regularly adjusted to maintain a steady blood level of thyroid hormone within the normal range. TSH should be monitored regularly. Tell her to take medications .Pregnancy wil not cause Hypothyroidism.
