Hyposthyroid?
Greetings, I am a 42-year-old female. I have always been very physically fit and taken care of my body with exercise and good eating habits. In 2009 I noticed I was gaining weight rapidly, losing hair, having dry hair, constipation, nails weakened, always tired, fatigued, and started feeling like I was losing my sex drive. In 2015 I had tests done by and endocrinologist and my thyroxine = 5.1 ug/dL . A few months later my thyroxine free = 1.05 ng/dL. Nothing was done after that. Not only do I still suffer from the symptoms already mentioned, but I am freezing all the time. My mother has hypothyroidism and my deceased paternal grandmother had hypothyroidism too. So, do I have hypothyroidism based on the above? On my own, I have taken selenium but that is not helping. I had started taking iron but my primary doctor had me stop taking it. So, if you could please give me some advice. I really appreciate your time and attention to this matter.

Hello there. I can understand your concern. Get a T3 T4 and TSH done and go consult a endocrinologist in person for further evaluation and management. Instead of taking worthless medications, take whatever is suggested to you only. That will be my best advice to you. Best regards. Dr. Anil Kumar Jain. Bangalore.
