I am 38 year male. I brush my teeth twice and gargle every time after food with a mouth wash. Still I get this periodontitis that is swelling in gums and bleeding also. These are symptoms of periodontitis only , right? Other than maintaining hygiene are there any medicines to treat this condition?

Brushing twice daily and gargling after every meal is a very good habit that you practice. But brushing properly is more important. It is the method of brushing which removes the deposits on teeth and not the time and frequency of brushing. Swelling and bleeding from gums is the first sign of Gingivitis(gums infection) and later stages of gingivitis leads to periodontitis(infection of gums and other structures surrounding teeth). Kindly visit a Periodontist or a general dentist to get a full mouth checkup done and get complete scaling and polishing. Medicines are of less use in such infection. Removing local deposits is more necessary.
