Rabies is transmitted through nerve route. If there is open wound then only chance of rabies. No other chance rather then it.

The rabies virus is short-lived when exposed to open air—it can only survive in saliva and dies when the animal's saliva dries up.

Basically you have to take rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin within 24 hours if the bite is on hand face neck, and within 72 hours if it on lower extremities.
