Joint pains
From one month I have pains in my fingers,wrist and knee joints.I visited rhemutology doctor and after blood test evrything is normal expect uric acid which is highest i.e 9.So doctor gave me uric acid tablet-Febuxostat 40 mg for 1 month or more.But I got to know from few resources that if we start taking uric acid control tablets,we have to continue for lifetime.Is it true?

Uric acid created in our body as a part of protein metabolism, u need to modify your diet and consult rheumatologist regularly. He/ she will modify ur treatment as per body's response..

Uric acid increases in the body due to many reasons like diabetes, high blood pressure, stress, non-vegetarian food, alcohol, etc. Tablets like febuxostat reduce its level.
If you stop the tablet the level of uric acid will rise again (if the above mentioned causes are not taken care of).
So, it is not mandatory to continue febuxostat forever if you treat and control the underlying cause behind the high uric acid level.

uric acid is formed in the body due to not proper degradation of protien by the body. if uric acid is getting accumulated in the body especially in joints. if you control your protein intake and stop habits like smoking and alcohol, high fat diet u dont need any tablets for the condition. doctor gave you tablets to control the acute condition keeping in mind that u will follow the suggestions told by him to you
