Talk to experienced orthopedist online and get your health questions answered in just 5 minutes.
Get an x ray done - standing views of both knees. And post it again for consultation. There are various options available apart from surgery because she had pain only for 1 year.
Get x rays and consult some good orthopaedic surgeon. If required surgery for knee can help to relieve long time pain and patient don't need to take medications. Some arthritis pain will need long time pain killers if you don't opt for surgery.
