The reaction time will be dependent on the sensitivity of the underlying infection to the antibiotic. Usually if the underlying cause is sensitive to the antibiotics within 3 days it should come under control. If the problem persists or worsens you'll need to visit your treating doctor so that the medications can be changed as per your sensitivity. These steps may help: - Avoid cold food and water, preferably have hot food and water - Don't skip meals have a liquid diet containing soups and progressively increase to solid diet as per how you can tolerate. - Have food rich in vitamin C such as oranges to help build immunity. - Drink plenty of fluids, drink 3 liters of water per day - Do salt water gargling with lukewarm water thrice a day - Rest plenty, body heals while at rest If the condition persists or worsens visit nearest ER at earliest

You might be suffering from apthous ulcer major of tonsils. Usually it is a self resolving condition. But since it is bigger you may need to take good painkillers to symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist then steroid gargling may be of  benefit
Next Steps
Consult nearby ENT specialist for confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate treatment if required
