MAS - Meconium Aspiration Syndrome
Hello Doctor, My wife gave birth to a child on Friday 24th Nov 17 and the doctor who conducted cesarean said that the baby has inhaled meconium. The baby is still in NICU till today with the support of oxygen hood. I'm bit worried about the child health can you suggest on how can this be cured.

When the neonate passes motion inside the womb causes neonate to swallow the motion(meconium), if the meconium enters the lungs it is dangerous. It can cause meconium aspiration syndrome later if not treatered aggressively can cause persistent pulmonary hypertension and its complications. As you mentioned its already 3 days and now the baby is on oxygen support, the recovery signs are more so continue antibiotics and the treatment and dont be panic as NICU treatment will be slow and steady. Trust your pediatrician and ask all your doubts which he will clear as its his duty. Thank you.
