My wife missed periods by 6 days today

Asked for Male, 28 Years

My wife dosent miss her periods and gets it within 28 days most of the time. This is strange and its been over 6 days now. We had protected sex almost once in 3 days. During the cycle. We do not want to be parents now. Please help with suggestions. Is oral contraceptive safe for the body of a lady in taking if required ? We don't want any complications in delivery when we want to have a child later. Your advice will be helpful.
