Need second opinion.
Hello doctor, My mother is being treated for mental illness in Chennai. She is currently on the following medication: Loxapax 25mg ( night) Loxapax 10mg (morning) Oleanz 5mg (night) Thp 2 mg(morning) Vincomo (morning) Clozapine 50mg (night) She has been given clozapine yesterday during our consultation. Today she behaved differently in the night and has been so restless through out the day. She will not stay in one place and keeps moving around, she had suicidal thoughts before clozapine was prescribed by the doctor. Why did the doctor prescribe clozapine? Should we consult our doctor for emergency? Our doctor has not yet diagnosed the illness as we consulted him just a week before. Kindly advice.

Hi sir Thanks for seeking help here . Loxapine (several trade names worldwide) is a typical antipsychotic medication used primarily in the treatment of schizophrenia. Olanzepine and clozapine all are anti psychotic. She is taking treatment for psychosis perhaps. But we need symptom clarification for a diagnosis. After adding clozapine if has some effects ....we should observe closely. Remember Clozapine monitoring needed always . The akathesia or restlessness is not the common side effects of Clozapine. So I suggest plaza wait and add a clonotril if sure then propranolol 20 for her. We will observe these symptoms for few more days then will take a decision.
