If you are having any ligament injury or soft tissue rupture aroundr the knee it will not show in the x ray. So for that MRI scan is must.
Next Steps
Do cold therapy/ ice application for 10mins 2-3 times in a day, to reduce stifness & swelling of the knees. Use knee brace/ knee cap during activities & while playing.
Health Tips
Do knee strengthening exercises initially without weights. Progression with weight cuffs. Avoid cross leg sitting or squatting initially.

I understand. I suppose, being an IT professional, you're living a sitting life. Make sure you do proper warm up and stretching before playing. Also, make it a daily routine at the start of the day. Performing suryanamaskar of Yoga is a perfect thing to go for! Visit any good physiotherapist, get your posture assessment done. He/she will accordingly suggest some exercises.
Next Steps
Warm up and stretch before play. Visit a physio.
Health Tips
Relax while stretching. Stretch must be comfortable. It must be gradually increased. First comes warm up and then stretching.
