If you have not been doing physical exercise for some time and have started with inadequate warm up and strained yourself, then the pains are due to that. If you have taken all precautions and still have it then it is likely due to muscle pull. You will have to use an ice pack, take painkillers and also rest for a few days. Avoid lifting anything heavy and any gym for the near future. For exercises try yoga and core strengthening exercises. If the pain persists or is getting worse even with treatment in another 6-8 weeks time, then see an Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon. Hope this helps.
