Pain in lower left wisdom teeth
1 doctor have advised me to remove the wisdom teeth both lower and upper. Why is it necessary to remove the upper as well, since it is not causing any problems. I have a problem only in lower one.

The teeth have tendancy to erupt through out life. The uncontrolled eruption is prevented by opposing tooth. If the opposing tooth is removed the tooth will start erupting and keep coming down. This will disrupt the contact with the adjacent tooth resulting in food lodgement and damage to adjacent tooth. This is especially true for wisdom teeth, hence as a prevention its advised to remove the opposing wisdom tooth.

Hello, It is a norm to remove both the upper and lower wisdom tooth of the same side as the tooth that is left behind will start to supra erupt and may cause issues over a period of time. There is no need to replace these teeth.

Extraction of both upper and lower third molars is the best option. In case you get only your lower tooth extracted then the upper molar will erupt downwards till it finds a resistance ; causing another problem in future. Trust your dentist and discuss it with him or her . This would surely help you to understand the treatment better.
