Re-RCT or extraction
I had RCT in 2013. The capping broke after 2-3 months so, I had a new ceramic capping. In 2016, my gums swelled up around the same tooth & I got it cleaned up. It was perfectly fine till last week. But now I have pain in the same tooth when trying to chew something. I had a X-Ray & was told that there's infection at the end of the tooth & also the initial RCT wasn't done till the root end. This was the reason of pain & I was given two options a. Re-RCT or b. Extraction. Now I'm confused which option should I go for?

It would be much better to answer this question if I had a picture of the x-ray of that tooth. However from the data you've provided... if the x-ray shows a root canal treatment that is short of the the entire length, you should get it re-treated. Saving the tooth is important however given that you have had gum swellings that have been resolved with cleaning, implies that you might have an ill-fitting crown(cap) which might have food lodgement. Get that replaced as well. Try saving the tooth with a re-RCT. Good luck.
Next Steps
Get consultation for Re-RCT and to check if the tooth will be restorable adequately.

Hello sir.... It is better to go for RE-ROOT CANAL TREATMENT as it is most conservative procedure to save the teeth......Extraction is alternative to root canal. you can go with that only if the condition of your teeth is too bad......After extraction you need to replace the missing teeth with implants or fixed bridge....As it is time consuming and increasing cost of treatment it is better to go with re root canal treatment

kindly visit dentist for furthur clinical examination and management

As far as possible one should always try & save the tooth . If there is absolutely no scope for the tooth to be saved or the prognosis is bad , it is advisable to remove the tooth. I suggest pl visit a good root canal specialist & save the tooth by re rct. Further advice can only be given on seeing the xrays & the clinical examination.

Sir, I would say RCT which lasted almost 6 yrs was reasonably good treatment. If infection was not cleared properly at the time of first RCT, then you can get swelling or Pain far before than 6 years. If Re-RCT is possible then you should definitely give one chance for it. Because extraction is always a last option.
Next Steps
I would suggest Go for a specialist doctor (Endodontist) for Re RCT.

ReRCT will save the tooth. Nothing to worry about it. Extraction might seem an easy alternative right now, but then you will have to look at implants or a simple bridge for replacing the missing tooth. They will take time and more budget. Go for a ReRCT. Don’t worry.

If the tooth is not fractured or the condition is really bad then the tooth should be removed otherwise save the tooth by doing the procedure again n toothlife will be increased. Do the capping with the same and ensure the fitting of the crown
