Retainer Query
My braces are coming off next month & I wish to opt for permanent retainer only but my orthodontist says permanent retainer cannot be worn alone if I wear a permanent retainer I will have to wear an Essix retainer on it as well? Is this true Permanent retainer is not enough to retain teeth & has been worn with Essix retainer? Please help

Disadvantage of permanent retainers is that you wouldn't know when its broken and would know only when a tooth or more have relapsed. Its safer to wear them with essix retainers. Or just go for essix retainers

After orthodontic treatment there are chances of relapse (teeth cn go back to their old position or worse)so inorder to maintain them n new position retainiers should be used..first 6 months are crucial so wear ur retainers.permanent retainiers are just for the front teeth.so for more results wear ur removable retainiers too and do tighten them when they become loose
Next Steps
consult ur orthodontist
