Your symptoms are suggestive of tinea cruris(jock itch). It's caused by a type of fungus called dermatophytes. It grows in a circle on your skin and often looks like a ring. Due to irritation, the skin becomes red. Some people think the infection looks like there is a worm under the skin. Because of this, this infection is often referred to as "ringworm," although no worm is actually involved. The fungi are commonly found on the skin surface and nails and are usually quite harmless. Under certain conditions, however, they can multiply dramatically, causing irritation and surface tissue damage. You will require an antifungal tablet, antihistamine and a topical antifungal cream. The following steps may help: - Avoid using oily skin products - Reduce your exposure to the sun. Exposure to sun may trigger or worsen an episode and a tan makes the rash more visible. - Do not wear tight clothing. - Change undergarments regularly - Wear breathable fabrics such as cotton to decrease the sweating. - Keep areas where there is sweat accumulation dry regularly and apply powder in those areas to reduce the moisture. If the problem is persistent I would advise you to meet a dermatologist.
