Skin itching
Sir/Madam,                                 I have a problem with my skin. I am having to scratch the skin since it is causing itching and because of that it has got cuts on it. I have used many topical steroids, antihistamines and I have also cut my nails short. I am applying moisturising creams. My skin is getting dry. It has changed in colour compared to surrounding skin due to scratching which I feel. I changed my clothing also but still It is creating a lot of problems for me and this is happening for the past 5 to 6 years or so and I feel it is only getting aggravated. I have visited many doctors and I feel nothing is happening. I am also suffering from anxiety and depression. Can you please tell me what exactly is my problem.

Greetings. I think you may have atopic dermatitis. The other likely hood is increased itching due to anxiety and depression. Now this is tough to treat unless you make a conscious attempt to avoid scratching and prevent the negative cycle of anxiety / itching and scratching. Use moiturisers regularly - good brands / or atleast of good consistency. Be under the guidance of a qualified dermatologist and psychiatrist. Hope this helps. Warm regards. Dr Govind Suresh Mittal
