Hi,
Somatoform disorders can be better managed with combination of medication and psychotherapy (counselling, CBT, mCBT, relaxation techniques, talk therapy etc) and on long term psychotherapy can replace medications.
IBS
The symptoms are due to altered patterns of muscle contraction in the digestive system and increased sensitivity to various triggers: eating, stress, emotional arousal, gastrointestinal infections, or gaseous distension, which can exaggerate the symptoms, this leads anxiety and depressive episodes
Sleep disturbances (insomnia)
Managed better with Sleep hygiene
Good sleep hygiene practices include:
1. Limiting daytime naps to 30 minutes
2. Avoiding stimulants such as coffee or tea close to bedtime
3. Exercising to promote good quality sleep As little as 10 minutes of aerobic exercise, such as walking or cycling can drastically improve nighttime sleep quality.
4. Staying away from food that can be disruptive before sleep.
5. Ensuring adequate exposure to natural light.
6. Establishing a regular relaxing bedtime routine.
7. Making sure that the sleep environment is pleasant and cool, with adequate temperature.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychiatrist for psychotherapy and appropriate use of medication
