Spinal Tuberculosis
Dear Sir/Madam, Since some months back(approximately 3-4) i was suffering from mild pain from back to right leg, when it becomes fever and severe pain from back to right leg i saw a orthopaedic surgeon he suggested me to MRI and MRI results are-: OPINION 1. MR images revealed altered signal intensity involving D11, L5 vertebrae and sacrum with small presacral soft tissue component on left side, most likely inflammatory/? tubercular. Further evaluation and follow up advisable to rule out any other possibility. 2. No significant compressive lesion detected. Then doctor refer me to Neurosurgeon then he started my spinal tuberculosis treatment but my question is that i have infection in left side but having pain in right side and other question is after taken medicines one and a half month why still have severe pain in right side leg from back to some above and some below portion? please suggest. Regards Shivansh Khare

Providing MRI film images would be helpful. Based on the information you have provided, you have started anti TB medications. In cases of spinal tuberculosis, these need to be taken for several months (on an average around 12-16 months). There are government programs that monitor the treatment scheduled for patients with tuberculosis that you can access. In some cases the treatment is started after obtaining a sample by biopsy (can be done as a day care procedure under CT guidance). This allows for identification of the tuberculosis organism and assessment of sensitivity to anti TB medications. So check with your treating doctor regarding the same.
Next Steps
Review again with your treating doctor, regarding present clinical status and whether any change in medication needed based upon antibiotic sensitivity. Meanwhile it is not advisable to discontinue TB medications unless specifically advised to do so by the treating doctor since irregular intake of TB medicines leads to resistance of the bacteria.
Health Tips
Patients with TB benefit from high protein diets, oral calcium with vitamin D3 supplements. Avoid strenuous activity, running, jumping etc.
