First tell me how much time before umyiur dad had surgery?
As for acute surgery cases we need to dressing by some medical professionals only as it may b e risky as of infection.

It depends on the procedure done .
It's better to call some medical staff or nurse for dressing and prevent from any chances of infection at surgery site.
Do talk to your surgeon , they generally have there assigned team for all these procedures to be done at home for patients comfort.

It is better if you go to the hospital. They will guide you and tell you the proper procedure to do dressing at home.They also guide you about proper what care to be taken.And things to avoid.Do not take risk with the dressing to avoid further complication.
