The uncontrolled diabetes makes healing of wounds very difficult and increases the risk of further infection and increases the risk of developing a diabetic foot. I strongly recommend that you begin to control your sugar levels by medication, diet and exercise. These following lifestyle changes may help with control of diabetes: - Lose excess body fat and maintain a healthy weight as per your BMI. - Follow a plant-based, low-calorie diet. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Foods to avoid are those rich in trans fats (also called hydrogenated fat), saturated fat, and sugar. - Drink water and avoid carbonated drinks. - Exercise regularly: Exercise renders cells more sensitive to insulin. - Stress less. The stress response triggers the release of several hormones that increase blood sugar. Methods such as yoga and meditation will help. - Sleep well. Chronic sleep deprivation and poor quality sleep increase the risk for diabetes and obesity. - Do a check up atleast twice a year and maintain normal levels of sugar. People with diabetes are at higher risk of damage to nerves, kidneys, etc. so keep a constant check on your organs.
