I face difficulty in opening my full mouth. There is always a popping sound when I yawn or try to open my full mouth. My braces treatment is currently going on to correct my bite and my doctor has advised me 1 exercise in which I have to practise opening my mouth. But nothing has worked out. Is there any permanent cure for tmj or please tell any other good alternative. I am ready to consult any doctor who can treat me or who have better treatment options.

Hi, you seem to be suffering from Disc displacement disorder. You must understand that TMJ disorders are multifactorial and hence the treatment is also multidirectional like occlusal correction, splints, physical therapies and pharmacotherapy. You need to undergo proper evaluation and investigation to diagnose the exact problem and then to formulate a systematic approach to treatment.
Tmj disorders sometimes worsen with braces treatment .... not that braces caused it but that it just got shown. The pop sound is typical of tmj derangement. Lavage can help but most do not opt for lavage early. Avoid full wide mouth opening. I’ll need to reassess with more details for commenting on something more.
Permanent cure is not an option except in selected cases. In your case, after your brace therapy things may improve. If pain is your problem you can try hot water fomentation over the noisy joint area - intermittent(5sec on and 5 sec off) for 5-10 mins 2-3 times a day.
Next Steps
If it’s troubling you more and need a detailed assessment you may need to take a consult.
Health Tips
Ignore the sound and avoid doing anything that worsens the sound or causes pain.
