Tmj pain mainly occurs due to night grinding of teeth which is subconscious.... it is even observed in some patients after orthodontic treatment...... the main reason for the pain is because of muscles getting fatigue or because of a disc in the joint getting compressed.....the splint helps in disocclusion of the teeth and helps In relaxing the muscles and avoids compression of the disc..... till all of this happens you will be having pain and discomfort.....night grinding is seen to reduced by relaxing your mind before sleeping. You may practice yoga, meditate or atleast watch a comedy series before you go to bed.
