Toe nail injury

My friend's toe nail had an injury. The nail turned blue. A new nail started growing from the root. The blue-nail part broke out leaving traces of uneven surface below the injured part. Will the new nail grow completely and how long it can take. Please find attached pic.

It's not infection to nail. Injury to nails happens if nails not cut out regularly. So better keep your finger and toe nails clean and maintain. New nails will grow.
