Tsh - 5.38
Hello, Past two months I had been facing abnormal hairloss and I lost weight. I got few tests done in which the reports showed tsh as 6.44. I again for myself retested with complete thyroid profile where t3 and t4 are within the normal range whereas tsh shows as 5.38. Is it mandatory to start medication who is newly detected with thyroid? These figures are indicative nor hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism? Kindly suggest

Thyroid problems are not uncommon. but nothing to worry. i recommend a complete thyroid prodile and a consultation with a good physician.

Hello your reports of mildly raised TSH with normal T3 and T4 suggest subclinical Hypothyroidism.. Treatment In this condition depends on the factors like symptoms of hypothyroidism like( lethargy, fatigue swelling, cold intolerance, hair loss), anti TPO positivity status, family history of hypothyroidism, menstrual irregularities.... So do anti TPO antibodies at present and consult endocrinologist
Next Steps
Anti TPO antibodies

Your TSH is borderline hypothyrodisum or we call it subclinical hypothyrodisum. Even in subclinical hypothyrodisum can start on thyroid medicines in few conditions like pregnancy, goiter(neck swelling), anti TPO test positive and if on medicines for heart disease or psychiatric disease. So need to evaluate and decide weather to start or not. Since ur report is normal can wait. Consult a dermatologist for hair loss.
Next Steps
Anti TPO antibodies test
